The Growing Challenge

S ometimes . . .!

Sometimes I need a little kick in the pants to get motivated.

Sometimes stumbling around blindly on the internet has its benefits!

I found this online challenge and I have started it.  What I like about it is it has several levels so you can choose based on your green thumb comfort level!  I jumped in with both feet and I’m doing the extreme evangelist edition.

Several levels of the growing challenge.

This is what I have to do:

1.  Grow 3 Crops from Seed this Year.  I already do this so I’m changing it to grow 3 new varieties that I haven’t grown before. If you choose to take one of these challenges Melinda the creator of The Growing Challenge has created a great list of easy vegetables to grow from seed.  Also in my resources section there is link to a free seed starting manual by Nancy Bubel The New Seed Starters Handbook.

2.  Plant the Seeds in 3 New People.
I’m co-chair of our Super Green Team at my son’s school so I have many opportunities to “plant the seed”.  This year I will lead the kinder’s garden efforts and we will be planting many crops from seeds.  Some third graders still recognize me as the “garden lady” that took them out to the garden when they where kindergartners.

3.  Tell the Stories About Your Seed Planting On Your Blog and at One Green Challenge. This provides me with a bit more incentive to get it done promptly.

4.  Make it Seed to Seed! Grow 3 crops from seed, and save the seed from each of those 3 crops to grow them next year.  This is the part I’m most excited about, as I have been an inconsistent seed saver in the past.  No longer!

Check out the growing challenge website if your interested in joining this challenge and check back to see how I have progressed.

Thanks,

Elizabeth
